ASTI Annual Convention 2023

AVC provided AV support for the ASTI annual convention, where 500 second-level teachers recently gathered in Wexford.

During the convention, ASTI President Miriam Duggan criticised Ireland's lack of investment in second-level education, citing the 'Education at a Glance' report, which ranked Ireland last out of the 36 countries surveyed in terms of investment as a percentage of GDP.

Minister for Education Norma Foley also addressed the convention, where some delegates displayed placards expressing their opposition to teacher-based assessment.

Regarding Senior Cycle reform, Ms. Duggan called on Minister Foley to engage in meaningful collaboration with teachers, urging for their voices to be heard from the start of the process, rather than being invited to express their views after the conclusion had already been reached. She emphasised that such "superficial" consultations are meaningless.
